Facilities

With students coming from all over Licking County and surrounding areas, the Co-op is conveniently located downtown in the Village of Granville. Although our school is located in the educational building of a local church, we do not have an affiliation with any religious organization. We have been at our current location since 1951. We welcome your visit to our school! Please contact our Enrollment Coordinator or call the school at 740-587-0497 to arrange a visit.

The Classroom:

Our spacious classroom is divided into several Learning Centers. During Learning Centers/Free Play time, the students have the opportunity to explore at the Science Table, act out a career at the Dramatic Play Center, put on a puppet show at the Puppet Theater, build a city at the Block Area, and numerous other activities. Children are able to play together or alone, learning essential social skills such as: communicating and sharing, employing fine motor skills and eye-hand coordination, and thinking skills like language and imagination.

Sand Table

Shovels, buckets, vehicles and other sand toys abound for children to use at the Sand Table. Play in this area helps children internalize concepts such as volume, weight, and gravity while practicing taking turns.

Children use magnifying glasses and their senses of touch, sight and smell as they observe the materials that the teachers rotate through this area on a regular basis. A favorite event each year is watching the butterfly chrysalises and prediciting how many days it will take for the butterflies to emerge.

Puzzles, sorting activities and stringing beads are a few of the many table games available each day. Children develop their fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination and math readiness skills as they complete at these tasks.

Library/Reading Corner

Whether cuddling up with a pillow and a book, following along with a book on tape, or creating a message in the writing center, students have an opportunity for more quiet play in the Library/Reading Corner. Activities in this area encourage a child's language development.

Dressing up, working at the workbench, playing house or acting out a career are all a lot of fun! These activities help children to understand the world around them, utilize their imagination and develop coordination and fine motor skills.

As children build towers they utilize their hand-eye coordination and practice controlling their small and large muscle groups. Working together to create roads and cities encourages cooperation, social skills, language development and provides a foundation for future map skills.

Dramatic Play Center

Outdoor Play Area

A part of every school day includes activities to develop large muscles and spatial awareness along with an opportunity to be outside, weather permitting. The Co-op has a fenced in and secured play area located behind the building, providing privacy and safety from the road. The playground includes a large sand box, play house, playground and swing set.

Block Area

Puppet Theater

Indoor Play Area

During inclement weather, students have a spacious gym with exciting equipment to explore. Scooters, stepping cones, crawling tunnel, and individual balance boards are just a few of the developmentally appropriate pieces that are available.

Putting on puppet shows helps children develop their language and cooperation skills. Children use their imagination to create original performances or their memory to retell favorite stories.
