FAQ

Do parents teach the classes?
Teachers plan and teach all classes.  Parent helpers assist the teachers and are active participants in
the class activities.

Can dads help?
Absolutely!

Do I need to live in Granville to join the Co-op?
We enroll students from all over the area.  Our name just
refers to the fact that we are located in Granville.

I know you are in a church, is the program religious?
We do rent space in the education building of a church,
but we are not affiliated with any religious group.

Do parent helpers clean the classroom?
We have a professional cleaning service that cleans and
sanitizes weekly. Parent helpers perform touch up cleaning
on a daily basis.

What do I do if I can’t help on my scheduled day?
Contact your class representative for assistance in arranging a substitute.

I will only be able to serve as a helper parent part of the time, can I still join?
The class representative for your class will work around your schedule.  Parents often volunteer for
extra helping days early in the year if they are expecting a new child or other major changemid-
year.  It is also possible to arrange to serve as a parent helper only on certain days of the week. Co-
op parents often work together to exchange child care of younger siblings on their helper days.

My child is turning five, but we are not enrolling in
Kindergarten yet.  Do you have a program for us?
The four/five-year old class is designed to meet the
needs of 4 and 5 year olds.

What is a Mommy/Daddy and Me class?
A parent or caregiver attends and participates in the
class with each child. Parent and child engage
in activities  and crafts planned and facilitated by the
teacher and have the opportunity to interact with
other families.

How do I find out more?
You can reach us at 740-587-0497 or contact enrollment coordinator.

“The Granville Parent Cooperative Preschool is a unique preschool experience in the Granville
community.  I am unaware of any program like it.  I was drawn to the school because it is dependent
on parent involvement.  I feel that parent involvement is key to a child’s education and most
especially to a very young child’s education.
It has been so rewarding to see my daughter develop strong bonds to not only her teacher but to
her classmates and their parents.  It is comforting to know that she has all of these relationships in
her life.  I also know from experience, because my son is a ‘graduate’ of the program, that these
relationships will last long after her years at the school are over.
The Granville Parent Cooperative Preschool has been a strong, contributing institution for many
years.  In the last twenty-two years, six children from our extended family have attended and have
had wonderful experiences.  I know my daughter will leave with the same experiences.” – Donna,
parent of former and current students

“We have been very happy with the development
of our daughters…as part of the Granville Parent
Cooperative Preschool.  Through numerous
learning experiences we feel they are ready to
enter Kindergarten next year.
Both [girls] enjoy preschool.  They have made
lasting friendships and look forward to seeing
their teacher each day.  Through a very
comfortable and safe classroom setting they have
learned to communicate their feelings and ideas
freely.

"My daughter's first experience in school has been
tremendously beneficial. It has been rewarding watching her learn
and develop new skills, both socially and academically. Miss Laura
is a remarkable teacher who has taught me a great deal this school
year about raising my preschooler." – Natalie, parent
“We are writing to let prospective parents know of the wonderful experience our child has had
at the Granville Parent Cooperative Preschool. It has been [a] welcoming, nurturing, hands-on
learning environment that allows for individual differences.
Miss Laura is an exceptional first teacher.  Our child felt secure with her warm and welcoming
presence.  We especially remember her encouragement of children to experience different ways of
learning, especially sensory learning (painting with their fingers, even feet, and with different
materials like cornmeal and glue).
Mrs. Gregory does an excellent job of letting
the children know what is expected of them.  They
are given a variety of options for how to spend
their time, from imaginative play to hands-on
experiment stations to‘work jobs’ (more traditional
educational learning activities).  She is always a
calming presence in the classroom, and seems to
have a good sense of each child’s strengths and
personality.
We would highly recommend GCPC to other
parents!” – Dan and Robin, parents

“Our daughter has grown, matured, and leaned so many new skills in the past five months!  I
know this is in part due to the nurturing she has received at the Granville Parent Cooperative
Preschool.”– Beth, past parent

“Joining the Co-op has been wonderful for my son and for me. He has matured greatly in a
variety of ways through the gentle guidance and encouragement of his teacher and the other
parents.  As someone who recently became a full time stay-at-home mom, I knew very few other
parents who were not working fulltime.  I was able to make wonderful new friends; and by joining
the parent board, I have found an outlet that allows me to use my professional skills.” – Beth, parent

Preschool is a critical introductory period for a child’s life-long learning process.  We feel
bothMs. Laura and Ms. Gregory have created a positive, encouraging and sensitive environment
where curiosity, love of learning, security, and a sense of belonging has happened for our girls.
This year, Ms. Gregory has encouraged letter recognition, letter sounds, number recognition,
counting, cooperative social skills, self-help skills, and motor skills through free-play.  She makes
reading part of every day and introduces new songs and finger-plays at circle time.
The Co-op is a unique experience where both children and parents benefit. It’s the perfect
environment for getting to know other parents while gaining information on child development
through classroom participation.” – Kraig and Michele, past parents
